It seems that after some tests I suffer from Dermatitis Herpetiformis which is the result of a food allergy caused by gluten which comes from wheat, barley, and other grains. My immune systems thinks this protein is the enemy and creates anti-bodies to attack it. This in turn upsets the small intestines and somehow affects the skin which in turn breaks out in small sores mainly on the back and shoulders reaching down to the knees. On the head it appears on the forelock.
Why it had to wait until I was almost 70 years old before my immune system goes wonky, I don't know. Surely it could have spared me the itches and the ghastly sight of a hideous back even my wife can't look at. And why are my favourite foods triggering such attacks? To be sentenced to a gluten free diet for life seems so gross. My first taste of such food left me feeling like I'd just had mouth fulls of pulp from the Kawerau Pulp Mill. Yuck!
Anyway I will have to learn to cook gluten free food so that it tastes good and it seems that Asian food is the best bet along with wok cooking and a few more spices than I normally like. As far as drink is concerned it seems that I can drink any alcohol drink that is distilled plus gallons of water. While this is good news, I also have gout which means that I have to kia tipato on the the alcohol. That's OK as I am already doing that.
So my life sentence may turn out fine after all health wise. All I know is the sooner these things affecting my back disapear the better I'll feel. So Bon Appertif to me and all you people whose immune system have gone wonky just because of a protein known as gluten.
